This summer, step into a magical blend of storytelling, sustainability, and shared culture with the Alliance Française Silicon Valley. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of Filoli Historic House & Garden in Woodside, our next bilingual nature walk invites you to explore monumental troll sculptures, wander peaceful woodland trails, and gather for a joyful potluck-style picnic all in one inspiring day. Whether you're a nature lover, art enthusiast, or simply looking for a warm community experience, this outing promises something truly special for all ages.

🧌 1. Exhibition – TROLLS: Save the Humans

Our adventure begins with a visit to TROLLS: Save the Humans, a whimsical and eco-conscious art installation by acclaimed Danish artist Thomas Dambo. Nestled among Filoli’s redwoods, these six giant troll sculptures crafted entirely from reclaimed wood and recycled materials invite visitors to reflect on sustainability and our relationship with nature.

Each troll tells a story:

• Kamma Can, who turns trash into treasure
• Ibbi Pip, who builds birdhouses to bring wildlife closer
• Ronja Redeye, a poetic leader guiding us back to nature
• Rosa Sunfinger, Basse Buller, and Sofus Lotus, each connecting art, silence, and greenery in surprising ways

These interactive sculptures are as fun as they are meaningful perfect for families, and photographers, and creative art lovers.

🌲 2. Guided Nature Walk

Following the exhibition, we’ll set out on a relaxed walk through Filoli’s protected trails. You’ll stroll through oak woodlands, shaded redwood groves, and gentle hills with scenic viewpoints. Along the way, we’ll explore local plant life, learn about Filoli’s conservation efforts, and see how Dambo’s trolls harmonize with the natural world around them. The walk is family-friendly and open to all activity levels.

🧺 3. Potluck-Style Picnic Lunch

We’ll wrap up the day with a friendly, bring-your-own picnic in the garden. In true French style, we encourage everyone to bring a dish to share whether it’s a homemade quiche, fresh fruit, or your favorite cheese and baguette. Don’t forget your picnic blanket, utensils, and a generous spirit! This is a moment to relax, connect with fellow attendees, and enjoy a meal in nature’s embrace.
